Ethical and sustainable swimwear brands to check out this summer

We are in the middle of summer and with those heat waves hitting, most free days will be probably spent at the beach and lake. Last week at Neonyt, the global hub for innovation, fashion and technology, it was hard not to notice the numerous sustainable and fair swimwear collections. Therefore, I wanted to take the chance to introduce you to a few favourite Swimsuit brands of mine.

Pura Clothing
Pura Clothing is probably one of the first ethical brands that I got to know when I approached Fair Fashion for the first time. It's a Swiss label that handproduces their beautiful swimwear collection in Switzerland and Italy. The Italian fabrics are all made from 100% recycled materials. Furthermore, they produce in moderate amounts in order to prevent overproduction resulting in surplus. Their styles are inspired by travels to Hawaii and South America and are extremely comfortable to wear. I personally love the unique cuts and soft colors and they instantly put me on vacation mode. They offer swimwear for women as well as men. Also, check out their yoga collection which is strikingly beautiful in its simplicity.
A plus: With every order Pura Clothing donates 1 CHF (Swiss Frank) to charity.

Clō Stories
Clō Stories is a sustainable Spanish label based in Barcelona where all the swimwear is designed as well as produced. All their bikinis and bathing suits are reversible, so they can be worn in two different ways in an attempt to please its wearer for a long time. The fabrics are made to last and high-quality, produced with caution in Italy and Spain. With their recycled packaging and partially recyled Swimsuits they make a contribution towards more sustainable fashion. A great young brand to support.

Boochen
Boochen stands for Blue ocean obsessed and therefore its name suggests already that Boochen is a surfwear brand. The brand was founded by two German girls, surfers themselves, who recognized two major problems: First of all, common surfwear wouldn't stay in place and second they were shocked by the ocean pollution they came across. Therefore, with their brand they want to tackle both of these problems by creating swimwear that is good not only for surfing but also for the ocean. Their swimwear is made from Econyl® which is a material made from recollected seawaste. This material combined with Lycra® Extra Life, which gives protection from UV radiation, allows the swimwear to stay in shape much longer. Their swimsuits all combine 2 styles in 1 as they are all reversible. Swimwear made to last.

Margaret and Hermione
Maragaret and Hermione was founded in 2015 in Vienna by Barbara Gölles who used to work for Alexander McQueen. The swimwear is designed and printed in Germany, the fabics sourced from Italy and sewn together in Croatia. The material used to make the bikinis and swimsuits is made from recycled fishing nets that are no longer in use. Margaret and Hermione is subject to strict European control in order to ensure transparency and sustainability in every step of the process. Design united with quality and sustainability - that's what Margaret and Hermione aim for and what they, in my opinion, more than achieve.

MYMARINI
MYMARINI was founded in Hamburg and is a swimwear brand that shows that ecofriendliness and fashion can go hand in hand. Similarly to the other introduced brands, their swimwear is produced in Croatia which keeps transportation ways short. Their materials are Oeko-Tex certified and their Classic line is made from ECONYL®, a fibre from regenerated nylon. The material is completely toxin free and with a UV protection of UPF 50+ it's ideal for surfing and long days at the beach. Besides their regular collection they also have a children's collection on offer.
